ETHER-1000 SYSTEM ENGINEERING
The following engineering guidelines are recommended by GE and are
applicable in most utility applications. Following these guidelines will ensure that
the most critical applications are properly handled. GE reserves the right to
modify these guidelines at any time (e.g. due to new features added).
Traffic Prioritization
Ensure that all traffic is properly prioritized. GE recommends the following priority
assignments:
Protection (relaying): Priority 6 (Note: 'GOOSE' frames shall be

Voice over IP:
Corporate LAN:
Misc. (e.g. video):
Use these priority assignments even if some of the listed application types are
not applicable to your system.
Access ports dedicated to a specific application type shall have their Mapping
Priority forced per the above priority assignment list.
Access ports exposed to multiple application types (i.e. trunk ports to/from an
external switch) shall be set to use the frame‟s source priority information carried
in the 802.1p/Q tag (Source Priority = "Tag") while their Mapping Priority shall be
set to "76". The incoming traffic shall be prioritized by the external switch using
the above priority assignment list.
