Handling precautions
for proper operations
Be sure to observe the following precautions for the proper functioning of the console drawer. Ignoring the
precautions may cause malfunction or failure of console drawer.
Turn off the cellular phone, smart phone or pager. Radio interference may cause malfunctions of the console
drawer.
Install the console drawer in a place where the console drawer can work normally.
Make sure that the server connected with this console drawer is off-powered and all the power cords are
unplugged from the power outlet before connecting or disconnecting cables to this console drawer.
Be sure to use the power cord appropriate for your console drawer, and plug it to the proper receptacle.
Arrange the receptacle so that the power cord can be plugged or unplugged easily.
Unplug the power cord from the outlet and make sure that the Power lamp on LCD is off before cleaning or
relocating the console drawer.
Turn off the power of all the connected servers and unplug the power cord from the outlet before relocating the
console drawer.
To carry the console drawer, package the console drawer with packaging material and shipping carton that
comes with the drawer. If you do not have them, use shock-absorbing material so that the console drawer may
not be damaged or given excess shocks and/or vibrations.
Do not pull the cable harness to disconnect the cable. Hold the connector of the cable and pull out the cable.
Clean the console drawer on a regular basis (See page 87 for cleaning). Regular cleaning proactively
prevents various failures of the console drawer.
Lightning may cause a momentary voltage drop. To prevent this problem, it is recommended to use of an
uninterruptible power supply unit (UPS).
Do not press two or more switches of the console drawer at the same time. Doing so may cause a malfunction
of the console drawer.
Be sure to use only the power cord that is appropriate for your console drawer. Use of an unauthorized power
cord may cause a fire or a malfunction of the console drawer when the electric current exceeds the rated flow.
Repair of the console drawer due to a failure or damage resulted from use of such a power cord will be
charged.
NEC recommends you use NEC's genuine interface cable. Repair of the console drawer due to a failure or
damage resulted from use of a third-party's interface cable will be charged.
It is recommended that the console drawer should be stored in a place where the room temperature can be
maintained.
The console drawer may be dewed if it is brought to a warm place from a cold place. Using a console drawer
with dew attached may cause malfunction or failure. Make sure to adapt the console drawer to the operating
environment before using it.
Be sure to store the console drawer while it is not in use. Leaving console drawer being pulled out from the
rack may cause a personal injury when you work with any other servers or peripheral device.
Do not lean on the console drawer while being pulled out from the rack.
