These units have had many improvements over time, please pay close attention to the following
illustrations. There are multiple gear and motor combinations as well as housings.

Models – KT, KD, all used the 53 tooth 1
stage gear and a 8 tooth motor. If you change the 1
stage gear to the

new 60 tooth 1
stage gear then you must change to the 10 tooth motor. Same as if you change the motor you will
st
have to change the 1
stage gear because they will not work unless they are paired up right. You may also need to
change the lower housing because the new motor (9706548) will not fit into the original housing (Pictures on
pages 17 and 18).
KitchenAid recommends that the plastic Transmission Housings be replaced with the new Magnesium Housing
and Gasket. (8212396)
The new control board(9706509) can be used on older units as long as you change the cord to the new
cord(W10325656).
