Establishing a partnership

Windows CE Services 2.0 creates a partnership between your Velo
500 and your desktop computer. This allows you to synchronize
documents, appointments, tasks, and contacts, as well as to back
up your data and transfer files. To establish this partnership, you
need to set up Windows CE Services 2.0 by connecting your
Velo 500 to your desktop computer and completing the New
Partnership Wizard. The wizard helps set up components for the
various tasks that Windows CE Services 2.0 performs, including
backing up your Velo 500 data and synchronizing data. You can
learn more about backing up, synchronizing, and transferring files
later in this section.
To connect your Velo 500 to your desktop
computer and establish a partnership
1 Insert the serial port connector of the Velo Dock into the
serial port of your desktop computer which you selected
during Windows CE Services 2.0 setup.
2 Place your Velo 500 in the Velo Dock.
Your Velo 500 will turn on automatically, and the red
serial connection indicator light

connection.
Note If you have enabled password protection on your
Velo 500, Windows CE Services 2.0 requests that you enter
a password before it will recognize the connection.
3 If you are running Windows NT on your desktop
computer, the logon screen appears on your Velo 500.
Type guest in the User Name box, make sure that both
the Password and Domain boxes are empty, and
then tap OK. If you or your network administrator have
changed permissions for the guest account, you may have
to log on using your personal NT account (including your
domain and password).
4 Windows CE Services 2.0 starts the New Partnership
Wizard. Follow the instructions on your screen.
