Overview of Installation and Removal

Install/remove components by using the following procedure.
The internal components except for hard disk drives must be installed or removed after dismounting the server
from the rack. See Chapter 2 (2. Installation and Connection) for details.

If the server is mounted on a rack, use UID Switch to identify the target server.
See Chapter 2 (1.4 Confirming Servers (UID Switch)).

Remove the front bezel.
See Chapter 2 (1.5 Removing the Front Bezel).
3.
Turn off the server.
See Chapter 3 (6. Turning off the Server).
4.
Disconnect the power cord from the outlet and the server.
5.
When installing or removing the Internal Flash Memory, DIMMs, RAID controllers, PCI cards, or
optical disk drives, dismount the server from the rack and place it on a flat and hard desk.
See Chapter 2 (2.1.2 Installing the server to the rack or removing it from the rack – (2) Removal
procedure).
If installing only additional hard disk drives, go to step 11.

Remove the top cover.
See Chapter 2 (1.6 Removing the Top Cover).
Be sure to observe the following precautions to use the server safely. Failure to
observe the precautions may cause burns, injury, and property damage. For
details, refer to Safety precautions in Precautions for Use.
• Do not drop the server
• Do not leave the server pulled out of the rack
• Replace the cover after installing components
• Beware of high temperatures
• Do not get your fingers caught when installing components
Important
After disconnecting the power cord from the server, wait for at least 5
seconds before continuing to work because the components on the
motherboard might still be operating for 3 to 4 seconds even after the power
cord was disconnected.
Important
Do not leave the server open on the rack.
