Chapter 2 Preparations

Overview of Installation and Removal

Install/remove components by using the following procedure.
1. If the server is mounted on a rack, use the UID switch to identify the target server.
See Chapter 2 (1.3 Identifying Servers (UID Switch)).
2. Remove Front Bezel.
See Chapter 2 (1.4 Removing Front Bezel).
3. Turn off the server.
See Chapter 3 (6. Turning Off the Server).
4. Disconnect the power cord from the outlet and the server.
5. If you install a hard disk drive only, go to step 14, and if you install a power suppply unit only, go to step
15.
If not, pull out the server from rack and put it on a flat rigid desk.
See Chapter 2 (2.1 Installation).
6. Remove Top Cover.
See Chapter 2 (1.5 Removing Top Cover).
7. Remove PCI riser card.
See Chapter 2 (1.6 Removing PCI Riser Card).
8. Remove the support bar.
See Chapter 2 (1.7 Removing Support Bar).
9. Depending on the components to be installed or removed, follow the procedure in order.
See Chapter 2 (1.9 TPM Kit) to (1.21 Use of Internal Hard Disk Drives in the RAID System).
10. Mount the support bar.
See Chapter 2 (1.23 Installing Support Bar).

Be sure to observe the following precautions to use the server safely. Failure to
observe the precautions may cause burns, injury, and property damage. For
details, see Safety Precautions and Regulatory Notices.
 Do not drop the server
 Do not leave the server pulled out of the rack
 Replace the cover after installing components
 Beware of high temperatures
 Do not get your fingers caught when installing components
Important
 After disconnecting the power cord from the server, wait for at least 30
seconds before installing/removing optional devices.
 Make sure AC POWER LED on power supply unit is unlit.
Important
Do not leave the server being pulled out from the rack.
