Enabling the Unified Write Filter
1.
Run the command prompt as Administrator.
2.
In Command Prompt, run 'uwfmgr.exe volume protect <drive letter>' to enable protection of the drive.
To enable protection of the C drive, enter 'uwfmgr.exe volume protect C:'.
Arbitrary folders and files of the drive can be excluded from protection.
To exclude arbitrary folders and files from protection, run the following command.
• uwfmgr.exe file add-exclusion (file path to be excluded)
Example: To exclude 'C:\Test\test.txt': uwfmgr.exe file add-exclusion C:\Test\test.txt
Example: To exclude the desktop: uwfmgr.exe file add-exclusion C:\User\(user name)\Desktop
3.
Run 'uwfmgr.exe filter enable' in the command prompt to enable the Unified Write Filter.
If the command is not run, the settings are not enabled.
4.
Restart Windows.
The Unified Write Filter is enabled after Windows restarts.
