1. Print the quality control pattern (page 51).
2. Check the diagram in the spatial resolution check area
printed on the quality control pattern.
Check Points
s Are there any broken or missing parts on the three
squares on the black background in the spatial
resolution check area?
s Are there any broken or missing parts on the three
squares on the white background in the spatial
resolution check area?
Measures
If there are any broken or missing parts in the diagram in
the spatial resolution check area, implement the corrective
measures below in the following order.
1. Clean the thermal head as described in "Maintenance"
(page 40). After cleaning is completed, print the
quality control pattern again and then check the
spatial resolution. If there is no improvement, proceed
to the following corrective measure.
2. Replace the cleaning roller and then clean the thermal
head again as described in "Maintenance" (page 40).
After cleaning is completed, print the quality control
pattern again and then evaluate the spatial resolution.
If there is still no improvement after performing 2 above,
consult your Sony dealer.

2. Check the extremely low and high gradient check
area.
Check Points
s Is there a difference visually between the dark
frame surrounding the background of the three
white squares, and the black background of the
quality control pattern?
s Is there a difference visually between the
background of the three black squares and the
white frame surrounding it?
Measures
If there is no difference between the background and the
corresponding outer boundary in the extremely low and
high gradient parts check area, implement the corrective
measures below.
1. Perform automatic calibration of the printing density
as described in "Calibrating the Printing Density"
(page 32). After calibration is completed, print the
quality control pattern again and then check the
extremely low and high gradient parts. If there is no
improvement, proceed to the following corrective
measure.
2. Load new film and then perform automatic calibration
of the printing density again as described in
"Calibrating the Printing Density" (page 32). After
calibration is completed, print the quality control
pattern again and the check the extremely low and
high gradient parts again.
If there is still no improvement, consult your Sony dealer.

2. Look at the whole printed quality control pattern and
check whether or not there are any artifacts.
