Bearing Adjustment
IMPORTANT: Before removing the cutting unit, re-
move the reel motors to prevent damage to the hy-
draulic hoses.
Periodically check the drag on the reel bearings. Proper
adjustment of the reel bearings ensures that no end play
of the reel exists and there is minimum rolling torque of
the reel assembly. All measurements and adjustments
of the reel rolling torque must be done with a completely

assembled cutting unit. Check and adjust the reel bear-
ings in the following manner:
1. Adjust the bedknife so it is not in contact with the reel.
2. Measure the rolling torque with a torque wrench. The
measurement should be 5 to 7 in.-lbs. If it is not, or if end
play exists, adjust the reel bearing as follows:
A. Remove the mounting nuts from the counterbal-
ance end weight (Fig. 38).

Cutting Units
