Under normal ambient conditions, the LEL is the danger threshold when handling these gases.
Special operating conditions can lower the risk potential of these gases below the LEL. A value
of 25% of the LEL is regarded as definitely safe.
When operating types of protection Ex t, do not introduce combustible or ignitable gases into
devices that are approved for operation in ignitable dust atmospheres.
Safety device for the pressurized enclosure in Zone 2
An unsuitable safety device for the pressurized enclosure in Zone 2 can result in the danger of
explosion in hazardous areas. Therefore observe the following instructions:
• If you do not introduce combustible gases or gas/air mixtures (sample gases) into the device,
use the type of protection "Simplified pressurized enclosure Ex pz" in Zone 2.
• If you introduce combustible gases or gas/air mixtures (sample gases) that are occasionally
ignitable into the device, use the type of protection "Pressurized enclosure Ex px/py".
• Purge the device with an approved safety device in accordance with the specifications in the
section "Technical specifications for operation in hazardous areas (Page 96)".

Requirements for commissioning

The following requirements must be met before you commission the device:
• The device has at least one analyzer module.
• All required gas lines and equipment are connected to the device.
• No gas has been introduced into the device.
Information on how to connect the gas lines correctly is available:
• in the section "Gas connections (Page 35)" and
• in the device-specific operating instructions (Page 107).
If you are using an Ex p safety device for the pressurized enclosure system, you will find the
required information in the corresponding documentation. Additional information is available
in the section "Ex px safety equipment (Page 101)".

General information on leaks

Pressurized enclosure Ex p
The analyzers may only be used in hazardous areas if all required gas inlet and outlet lines have
been connected prior to commissioning and tested for leaks and tightness with 1.5 times the
respective maximum permissible operating pressure.
