80 Series Version 2
FleetSync Application Guide
5. FleetSync in 80 Series Version 2 radios will display the PTT ID, when Caller ID is enabled in
the programming software. FleetSync-compatible dispatch software or an ANI display unit can
also be used to "read" or decode and display the PTT ID.
6. During a SelCall (i.e., selective-call operation), a FleetSync radio will decode and display
stored ID list alpha-tags (from a list of up to 100 stored ID alpha-tags). If a SelCall Fleet/ID
number is not in the ID list, only the Fleet/ID numbers will be displayed. Otherwise, FleetSync
compatible CAD software or ANI display unit will be required to encode/decode and display
more than 100 ID alpha-tags.
7. Upon decoding an Emergency Status message (No. 99), a FleetSync radio's LCD will
alternately display "E-M-E-R-G-E-N-C-Y" and the Fleet/ID numbers, as well as continuously
emit a repeating emergency tone until reset. Furthermore, the horn alert output can be used to
trigger an external alarm or light for heightened attention. Other enhancements may include
compatible dispatch software or console with on-screen visual alerts and audible alarm
functions.
8. A FleetSync radio stores four (4) short-text messages of 48 characters each and will display
them in a scrolling fashion on the radio's LCD.
9. A FleetSync radio cannot store long-text messages of 1,024 characters it also cannot be
displayed on the radio's LCD, but the data is available out of the radio's serial COM port.
10. On an 80-Series Version 2 vehicular or base unit, COM 1 or COM 2 ports can be set to
"GPS" to accept the NMEA-0183 data output from an external GPS receiver.
11. Most FleetSync PC applications and some peripheral equipment (e.g., ANI decoder display
units) may require the FleetSync PC Serial Control feature to communicate with the Kenwood
80-Series mobile unit, especially the base radio. For instance, the base station 80-Series radio
will require the FleetSync PC Serial Control function when a PC is running CAD software, and
therefore the FleetSync "Enhanced" option must be enabled in this base radio. The fleet radios
do not need the FleetSync "Enhanced" option enabled unless some of the "enhanced" features
sets are required in the vehicular radio units (e.g., decode short text messages, etc.– see the table
on page 2). PC Serial Control is available at either the COM1 or COM 2 port of the radio.
