Hardware mirroring requires installation of a Drive Array Controller (DAC) in a
PCI bus slot. The SCSI cable must be moved from the channel A connector on
the I/O baseboard to the PCI DAC in the PCI slot. Ensure you use a DAC with an
LVD compatible interface.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the interface or the PCI DAC board,
don't use a non-compatible LVD PCI DAC board.
NOTE
If you choose to use Hardware Mirroring, which makes use of
the PCI DAC instead of the on-board SCSI Channel A, you
should understand the internal DAT tape drive is not available
for use with the PCI DAC. Even if you connect the DAT tape
drive to the PCI DAC, it will not function properly.

One Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR)

The HP NetServer LXr 8500 supports HP's hardware based One Button Disaster
Recovery (OBDR) feature, when using an HP SureStore DAT tape drive with
OBDR compatible software. This feature saves the DR boot image or system
configuration data onto the tape as part of the daily backup, keeping it current and
stored with system backup on tape.
If a total system failure occurs, the system can be recovered by:

inserting a current tape,
l
pressing the DAT tape drive's eject button and the HP NetServer's power
On button on the front control panel at the same time.
This initiates the DAT tape drive, which emulates a CD-ROM, and it recovers the
system files and configuration data for the HP NetServer from the latest backup

Boot Device Priority

The HP NetServer's boot order is determined by the slot location of the PCI board
in the I/O baseboard. The NetServer searches for bootable devices (by default) in
the order listed in this topic. The SCSI Configuration Utility and the Setup Utility
(BIOS) can be used to change the boot priority. This includes booting from a PCI
accessory board or PCI-based DAC inserted into a PCI slot in the I/O baseboard,
instead of the onboard SCSI channel.
