Chapter 1

Purpose of This Guide

This guide describes the steps you need to perform to convert the HP NetServer
LXr 8000 to the HP NetServer LXr 8500. This guide includes the following
topics:
Chapter 1, "Introduction," explains what accessories you might need before
you begin the upgrade, and identifies related documentation you might
need.
Chapter 2, "Preparing for the Upgrade," identifies the necessary tools,
instructs you to back up your data, and suggests how to set up your work
area. It also lists the contents of each box in the upgrade kit.
Chapter 3, "Disassembling the LXr 8000," explains exactly which
components must be removed from the NetServer LXr 8000.
Chapter 4, "Preparing to Assemble the LXr 8500," explains how to put
together the processor tray and memory board subassemblies.
Chapter 5, "Assembling the LXr 8500," describes the assembly procedure.
Chapter 6, "Preliminary Hardware Verification" instructs you to turn on
