2 Description of Functions
2.1.1 Overview
• Adapter geometries L1, L2
are necessary for adapters that are mounted on the turret. The geometrical values are
entered without any reference to the position. The position of the adapter is not defined
until a tool is inserted since the machining bases depend on the type of tool used. For one
tool type, for example, L1 operates on the Z axis whereas L2 operates on the X axis. For
another tool type, however, L1 and L2 are assigned to different axes. The position of an
adapter is determined as soon as it is equipped with a tool. The axis assignment for L1
and L2 can be derived from this definition of the adapter position and thus be correctly
calculated with the tool geometry. The specification necessary for defining the adapter
position is stored in the data block described below.

As explained above, the adapter position is used for defining the axis assignment of the
adapter geometries L1 and L2, which depends on the tool inserted in the adapter.
