7-2 Maintenance

CLEANING

To keep the drive in the best condition for securing the customer's data, periodical cleaning is
required.

Cleaning the Read/Write Head

When the cleaning notice is indicated on the Single Character Display with a character "C", clean
the Tape Blade internal read/write head
Set the provided cleaning cartridge or our cleaning cartridge into the drive. For setting procedure,
see "Setting the Data Cartridge" in Chapter 9.
When the cleaning cartridge is set into the Tape Blade, the cleaning operation is automatically
started.
After cleaning, the cleaning cartridge is automatically ejected.
IMPORTANT:
Use our Cleaning cartridge to clean the Tape Blade. If you use a
cleaner of the other manufacturer, a machine failure may be caused.
LTO Cleaning Cartridge can be used for around 50 times.
Perform the cleaning operation only when SCD displays the
cleaning request.
If expired cartridge is used, the cleaning cartridge is ejected. Fault
LED lights up and SCD displays "E".

Cleaning the Tape Blade

If the Tape Blade looks dirty, gently wipe its surface with soft cloth moistened with water or
detergent.
IMPORTANT:
benzene or thinner (volatile chemicals), which may cause the drive to
be deformed or discolored. For the same reason, do not spray
insecticide. If a chemical adheres to the drive surface, immediately
wipe it with soft cloth moistened with water.
