Installing Boards

NOTE
Some full-length PCI boards have a plastic "handle" (board
extender) on one end. If the board you are installing has one,
you may need to remove the handle to make the board fit in
the HP NetServer. Do not bend the board to make it fit.
This procedure tells how to install a PCI board when the system is powered
down. Use this procedure to install PCI boards that will not take advantage of the
PCI Hot Plug feature. Also use it when you install PCI Hot Plug boards with the
system powered down.
NOTE
Your NOS may not support hot addition of boards. In such
cases, the initial installation of a hot-plug board in a hot-plug
slot would have to be with system power off. This is
mandatory for Windows NT 4.0 users.
You can install 32-bit and 64-bit boards in any slot and expect them to operate
normally, but:
Only slots P7 through P10 have a 64-bit bus
Only slots P7 through P10 support hot-plug operations
To install a board:
1. Read the documentation that is included with the board. Note any special
instructions.
2. Log off all users. Back-up files. Follow instructions in your network
operating system (NOS) documentation to gracefully shut down all
networking software and applications.
