The principal functional components and their interrelationships are shown on the
block diagram of the Processor PCB (see Figure 2-2). The major elements of the
PCB consist of the following functional areas:

• An NEC pPD8086 microprocessor, which is
1) Fully compatible with the Intel 8086 microprocessor

Capable of addressing one MB of memory
Driven by an NEC pPD8284 clock generator at 4.9152 MHz
• A 20-bit bidirectional address bus, 16 bits of which serve also as the data
bus, and related buffers, controls, and ports
• A DMA controller to permit high speed data transmission between input/
output devices without intervention of the microprocessor
