The blade assembly unit can contain up to six CPU blades and two intelligent switches (L2) in the
chassis of 4U (177 mm) height. Server function and switch function for 6 servers can be
consolidated into one blade assembly unit.
Two Ultra320 SCSI hard disk drives can be connected to one CPU blade. Consequently, the blade
assembly unit can contain up to twelve hard disk drives.
Installing the optional power supply units (N8405-012/012F) in addition to the factory-installed
power supply units creates a power redundant configuration (N+1) that enables continuous
operation of the system without power interruptions by an unexpected power failure.
In addition, remote maintenance function is provided by ICMB (Intelligent Chassis Management
Bus) interface.
An optional N8406-005F intelligent switch (L2) supports the following functions:
KVM Select switch:
To select the CPU blade that can use the console (keyboard, video monitor, and mouse).
Media Select switch:
To select the CPU blade that can use the internal floppy disk drive and CD-ROM drive.
Serial Select switch:
To select the CPU blade that can use the serial port to connect with the maintenance PC.
