Agent
The HEW Agent monitors the server on which it is installed. System faults are sent to the
Management Proxy. The Agent is responsible for responding to requests for information
generated by the Management Proxy. Install the HEW Agent on each Magnia 3200 that
you wish to monitor.
Management Proxy
The Management Proxy collects error reports from the Agent, stores them, and in turn
relays settings from the Management Console to the Agent. Collected error information
can be sent by e-mail or displayed as Alert Messages on the Management Console
machine.
At least one Management Proxy machine is required per system. Two Management
Proxy machines can be setup so that one works as the primary server and the other as
the backup server for management of Agent information.
When two Management Proxies are used, the servers must be set up to prevent alarm
reports sent to Management Console from being duplicated. The primary Management
Proxy should be set up to send e-mail and Alert Messages to the Management Console,
and the backup Management Proxy should be set up not to send them to the
Management Console.
Install the HEW Management Proxy on at least one Magnia Server that resides on the
network.
Management Console
The Management Console receives error information from the Management Proxy and
displays them as Alert Messages. It also allows the use of an Internet browser to obtain
Agent information or to setup alert events on the Agent machine. Most monitoring
operations are performed from the Management Console. The HEW Management
Console must be installed on the Management Console machine.
