Configuring connections

5.1

Overview

You can create two different types of HMI connections in the TIA Portal, integrated and non-
integrated HMI connections:
● You configure integrated connections in the "Devices & Networks" editor after you have
added the connection partners.
See Configure an integrated connection (Page 62)
● An integrated HMI connection to the PLC is required in order to import DB2 alarms.
● The following devices are possible as connection partners of the SIMATIC Panel or PC
system:
– Device proxy with connection to a PLC of a STEP 7 project as of V5.4
– PLC of a configured SINUMERIK NCU
See Required software components for DB2 alarms (Page 96)
● The "Integrated connection" connection type is not available for the connection to the NC.
● You create non-integrated connections in the "Connections" editor. The connection
partner must not be inserted in this case (for example, integrated PLC of the NCU).
See Configuring a non-integrated connection (Page 66)
● You specify the communication driver and the connection parameters yourself for a non-
integrated HMI connection.
Further information
General information about integrated and non-integrated connections can be found in the
information system, keyword "Non-integrated, connection" or "Integrated, connection".
