Technical Information
Perform the following tests with the unit powered on:
1
Power - check for line voltage (120VAC) between pins 10 and 11. This
power passes through the power electronic, so if there is no voltage here
the power electronic is faulty.
2
On/Off signal – Check for DC voltage between pins 1 and 2. If the
icemaker is selected on ('ICE' = orange), you should find 5 volts here. If
the icemaker is selected off ('ICE' = white) you will find one volt or less
here. If you cannot toggle between these two states, it's possible the
problem can be either with the power or control electronic. Since we
cannot observe the communication between the two boards, both
electronics should be replaced.
3
Door signal – Check for continuity between pins 11 and 12. There should
be no continuity when the door is open. Trip the door switch with a
magnet (single-door models) or manually press the freezer door switch
(bottom-mounts). Simulating door closure in this manner will result in full
continuity between the two pins. Any errors in toggling between these
two states should be investigated with the reed relay board (single-door)
or the mechanical door switch (bottom-mounts).
The following continuity tests should be executed with the power off:
1
Inlet heater – You should find a resistance of 7 – 8 Ω between pins 3 and
4. If this circuit is open, the icemaker will generate a fault and blink the
error sequence 3-3-5. Check the inlet heater; it may be unplugged. This
part can only be reached from the rear of the machine.
2
Water valves – You should find a resistance between pins 7 and 8 of
0.6Ω. If this circuit is open, the icemaker will generate a fault and blink the
error sequence 3-2-3. Check the inlet valves – one may be unplugged.
Warning: Exercise caution when checking voltages. Any short circuits
or accidental feeding of 120 volts to a low-voltage point could cause
irreparable damage to the Molex or wiring harness. The unit would need
to be replaced.

Banking Pins Are Now Available for Refrigerators

The normal door swing on an Independence refrigerator is 115°. This can be
limited to 90° with the use of banking pins in the hinges. These pins come in
pairs and the part number is 7474450.
