Communication media

When directly connecting the PC to the ETL600, a one-to-one cable (9
pole female to 9 pole male) is used, provided the COM port of the PC
has a 9 pole connector. In case the COM port of the PC has a 25 pole
RS-232 connector, an adapter (25 pole female to 9 pole male) is
needed. The cable distance between the PC and the P4LT depends
upon shielding of the cable, the conductor size, the baud rate used,
cable capacitance and the EMI/EMC environment in which the cable is
installed. As per the specifications of RS-232 it can be typically 15
meters. However, it can be lower or higher depending upon the above
parameters.
In case a USB to RS-232 converter is used, data throughput might be
degraded depending on the model. The following models of USB to
serial converters have been tested successfully:

Communication settings

In the HMI600, open the dialog box Options / Communications...,
select Direct connection, choose the right Port (COM1, 2, 3, ...) and
set the Timeout to 1500ms or higher. Click OK to accept the settings.
