ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDAL GROUP
CAUTION
• Failure to remove burrs will damage the cable bellows during installation.
2.5. Paint the inside of the enlarged hole to prevent corrosion.
2.6. Secure the hydraulic brake hose in its original location with clamp.
2.7. Install front cowl. See Front Cowl Installation on page 4-9.
3.
Feed cable through mounting bracket and snap cable anchor into bracket.
4.
Connect the Z-shaped end of the accelerator cable to the pedal (Figure 5-16, Page 5-6).
5.
Install the screw securing the cable end to the throttle bellcrank (Figure 5-15, Page 5-6).
6.
Connect accelerator cable extension spring (Figure 5-13, Page 5-5).
7.
Secure accelerator cable sheath in cable clamp finger-tight to allow for cable adjustment(Figure 5-14, Page 5-5).
8.
Adjust accelerator cable. See Accelerator Cable Adjustment on page 5-7.
9.
Connect battery and spark plug wire(s). See Connecting the Battery – Gasoline Vehicles on page 1-4.

ACCELERATOR CABLE ADJUSTMENT

1.
Disable the vehicle. See Disabling the Vehicle on page 1-3.
2.
Disconnect battery and spark plug wire(s). See Disconnecting the Battery – Gasoline Vehicles on page 1-4.
3.
Raise the cargo bed and secure with the bed locking pin. See Cargo Bed, Section 4, Page 4-22.
4.
Remove the exhaust pipe heat shield.
5.
Place a 3/4 inch (19 mm) thick spacer between the accelerator pedal and the floorboard.
6.
Push accelerator pedal down against the spacer and hold.
7.
Fully turn the engine throttle bellcrank against tab and hold (Figure 5-17, Page 5-8).
8.
With cable attached to engine throttle bellcrank (Figure 5-15, Page 5-6), pull cable sheath to remove any slack.
9.
Tighten cable clamp screw to 35 in-lb (4 N·m) (Figure 5-14, Page 5-5).
10. Attach accelerator cable extension spring (Figure 5-13, Page 5-5).
11. Verify proper cable adjustment.
11.1. Remove 3/4 inch (19 mm) thick spacer and push accelerator pedal to the floor and hold.
11.2. Confirm the throttle bellcrank makes a positive stop against the mounting bracket tab (Figure 5-18, Page
5-8). If it does not, check cable and governor/throttle linkage for binding, obstructions, or incorrect routing
and correct as needed. Then perform cable adjustment again.
12. Connect battery and spark plug wire(s). See Connecting the Battery – Gasoline Vehicles on page 1-4.
