Platen Glass

You should use the platen glass when scanning bound originals (such as books
and magazines), heavy or lightweight originals, and transparencies. (See
"Document Sizes," on p. 1-34.)
NOTE
1
The imageRUNNER 2020 automatically detects the size of the following originals on the
platen glass: 11" × 17", LGL, LTR, and LTRR. If you place your original on the platen
glass of the imageRUNNER 2016, the machine cannot detect the size of the original.

Placing Originals
Lift the feeder/platen cover.
IMPORTANT
This machine is equipped with an open/close sensor on the feeder/platen cover
(See circled area in the above illustration). When placing originals on the platen
glass, lift the feeder/platen cover high enough so that the open/close sensor
underneath is fully released. Otherwise, the machine may not correctly detect the
size of the originals. (Only the imageRUNNER 2020 can detect the size of an
original placed on the platen glass.)
