conditions are met:
- Disk drive has not been experiencing problems, this can be checked with STATE$REP.TM
(Chapter 8, Section 1-3 of Dir. 18000).
- Pack is still properly formatted.
3. Disk Initialization:
Disk initialization records information related to the recording integrity of the magnetic media, and for the
alternate placement of data that falls on a Bad Block area of the media. Disk initialization is required to
record the bad block table for use by the RDOS Operating System.
NOTE: Dual Drive systems will need to perform Disk Initialization on both drive disk packs before
installing software.
The time needed for this procedure is determined by the system configuration:
Single ACE System will require less than a minute.
Dual ACE System will require less than a minute.
NOTE: To initialize ACE, refer to chapter 4, section 3-9 of this manual for the procedure for running
the initializer on the ACE General Diagnostic Tape. Both ACE drives for a dual drive system
are initialized automatically as one unit, e.g. "Unit 0".
Single ARGUS System will require a 3.5 hour session.
Dual ARGUS System will require two 1.1 hour sessions.
NOTE: (Initializer will not do both packs automatically. Each pack must be done individually.)
Single ZEBRA System will require a 3.5 hour session.
Dual ZEBRA System will require two 3.5 hour sessions.

a. Turn computer, disk drive, and tape drive power on.
b. Set Tape Drive DENSITY switch to HIGH.
c. Mount the Load-from-Cold Tape #1 on the tape drive. BE SURE WRITE RING IS ON LFC BEFORE
YOU LOAD THE TAPE.
d. Press LOAD; the BOT light should go on when tape is in position.
e. Press ON LINE; the READY light should be on (Write Protect should be off).
f. Boot the computer from the Load-from-Cold tape as follows:
g. On the CRT terminal, observe the following dialog and type the underlined response, referring to the
comments on the right in parenthesis.
