The various input boxes can be selected with the EDIT key. Option buttons can
be selected with the ARROW keys and check boxes with the SPACE key.
10 interface settings are always displayed in the "Devices" list box. When the
control is started up for the first time, 10 possible devices are provided with
default settings. The settings can be selected and their names and parameters
changed.
You can name an interface setting in this text box. The interface setting is
displayed under this name in the "Devices" list box and in the right-hand
combo box of the data manager (if active).
These option buttons can be used to declare devices as active or inactive. Only
the active devices are displayed in the right-hand combo box of the data
manager and can be selected for data output.
You can assign the device to a serial port in this combo box.
The first serial port (COM1) is permanently assigned for connection of the NC
operator panel and cannot therefore be used for data transfer. Only COM2 is
available for data output in the present software version.
In this combo box you can choose between three protocols:
• RTS/CTS: With this protocol, the flow of data between the two devices is
controlled by additional hardware signals in the transmission cable. These
control lines allow the receiver to request the transmitter to stop the data
transmission if the receive buffer is in danger of overflowing.
• Xon/Xoff: When this protocol is selected, the flow of data is controlled
using control characters. The receiver sends an "Xon" character to signal
the transmitter that it is ready to receive. If the receive buffer is full, the
receiver can stop the transmitter with the "Xoff" character.
• None: Selecting "None" informs the SINUMERIK 840C that the peripheral
device does not use a specific protocol for controlling the flow of data.
The RTS/CTS protocol is generally used for data transmission between the
SINUMERIK 840C and a peripheral computer.
The baud rate sets the "speed: bit/s" with which the individual bits are
transmitted on the line. The higher the baud rate, the faster the bits are
transmitted. If a large number of transmission errors occur, you should reduce
the baud rate.
The transmitter and receiver must be set to the same baud rate.
You can choose between 7 or 8 bits for the character length setting. 7 bits are
sufficient for the transfer of NCK files in punchtape format, binary files require
8 bits.
