The main memory is a RAM in the CPU on which the processor accesses the
user program at the time of program execution.
Machine tool control panel with operator control elements such as keys, rotary
switches etc. and symbol indicating elements such as LEDs. It is used for
controlling the machine tool directly via the PLC.
The MCP is linked to the PLC CPU (135 WD) and interface PLC (135 WB/2)
through the operator panel interface.
Mode of the control: Manual Data Automatic. In the MDA mode, individual
program blocks or block sequences can be entered without reference to a main
program or subroutine and then be executed immediately by means of the NC-
Start key.
Displayed control functions on the screen that can be selected by means of
softkeys.
All messages and alarms are displayed on the operating panel in plaintext with
date and time and the appropriate symbol for the clearance criterion. The
display distinguishes between alarms and messages.
In mirroring, the signs of the coordinate values of a contour are interchanged
with respect to an axis. Mirroring is possible with respect to several axes at the
same time.
Order number: Machine-readable product designation
Man Machine Communication, operator interface. Another designation for the
integrated PC of a machine-tool control.
Execution concept for operating a SINUMERIK control. The following modes
are defined: -> JOG, -> MDA, -> TEACH IN -> AUTOMATIC.
A self-contained assembly unit or functional group which as a rule can
become effective in a wider function relationship.

Note: For the SINUMERIK 840C controls the term CNC would be more
accurate: computerized numerical control.
Numeric Control Kernel: Component of the NC control that executes part
programs and co-ordinates the motion sequences of the various axes.
A network represents the linking together of several computers or control units
through connecting cable. Communication takes place through the network, i.e.
the data exchanged between the linked devices.
Original Equipment Manufacturer: An OEM makes his own operator interface
or includes technology-specific functions in the control.
