Replace Crankcase Air Breather Element

1. Park the machine following the same procedure as
described on page 7-7 for preparation of inspection/
maintenance work.
2. Disconnect the battery cables.
Steam clean crankcase breather cover (1) area and
dry with compressed air.
3. Remove crankcase breather cover capscrews (2) (11
used).

NOTE: The six capscrews attaching crankcase breather
base (4) to the valve cover do not need to be removed.
4. Remove crankcase breather cover (1).
5. Remove crankcase breather element (3).

CAUTION: Be sure to wear safety glasses and
gloves when using detergent for cleaning.
6. Inspect breather cover (1) and base (4) for cracks or
other damage.
Check for internal obstructions or sludge buildup.
7. Clean crankcase breather cover (1) with hot, soapy
water and a soft brush.
Rinse the cover with clean water and dry with
compressed air.

NOTE: Do not use soapy water to clean or rinse breather
base (4). Clean the base with a wet rag to prevent water
from entering the crankcase.
