Italic characters can be selected and cancelled by using the
following commands:

The downloaded character set can also be selected using the
<CTRL>-1 nF command, with n set to 32. The command would be:
<CTRL>·l 32F
Italic characters are stored by the printer as ASCII characters with
codes in the range 160 to 255. This means that the <CTRL>-1 H
command can be used to select italic characters. The <CTRL>·l H
command adds 128 onto the character codes sent to the printer. For
example, where the ASCII code 65 is sent to the interface to print the
character 'N., if the <CTRL>·l H command has been sent first, the code
193 (128
+
65) would be sent to the printer instead and the 'N. would
be printed in italic mode.
£ signs are printed as

The printer will emit a beep sound if the character with ASCII
code 9 is printed. This is the 'bell' character, <CTRL>-G. On some
printers you can turn off the sound of the bell by means of a DIP
switch. The following commands can also be used to turn it on and
off:

<CTRL>·I #
<CTRL>·l #
<CTRL>-1 #

A command is provided to substitute other symbols for the $
character which is displayed in much American software. This is
extremely useful if the $ symbol is used by a spreadsheet program and
the currency required is (£) sterling. The effect of the commands varies
slightly depending on the international character set in use.
