The commands which control the horizontal format of the page are:
In each case
n
is the number of character widths. The word wrap
feature means that only complete words are printed on a line; words
are never broken between the end of one line and the beginning of the
next.
You would normally set the left margin and line length only, and
allow them to control the right margin. However, the <CTRL>-1 nR
command is useful if you want to make a printed BASIC or PASCAL
listing more legible with word wrapping, or if the computer keyboard
is being used as a typewriter. This is the only use for the word wrap
feature: it should never be used with a word processor, because it is
likely to conflict with commands issued by the software program.
It is useful to note that in order to obtain tidy listings <CTRL>-1 nR
should be set for 8 characters less than the actual limit of the line
length required. Also, when <CTRL>-1 nl is used, the new left margin
setting takes effect from the beginning of the next new line. This
command is implemented by the interface and not via a printer <ESC>
sequence.
These commands have been built into the # 8133 command set for
compatibility with other cards. The left margin can be set more
effectively with the ESC/P command <ESC> Ln. For example in BASIC:
PRINT CHAS (27) ; "L" ; CHR$ (10) ;
sets the left margin at the 10th column.
