GIVING COMMANDS
11111111111111111111111111111111111111111
The Epson # 8133 interface uses the <CTRL>-1 character to mark
the beginning of a command that is to be sent to the printer. This is
consistent with other Apple interface cards and with most applications
packages.
Under DOS 3.3 or ProDOS, the <CTRL>-1 character is obtained by
holding down the <CTRL> key while typing the letter
I.
If you are using APPLESOFT BASIC, the command
PRINT CHR$(9) can be included in a program; this is equivalent to
typing <CTRL>-1. If <CTRL>-1 is typed from the keyboard while you
are using APPLESOFT a Syntax Error will result. This is because the
command <CTRL>-1 does not start any BASIC or DOS command.
However, the command will be sent to the printer and will function
correctly.
Important: CP/M and Pascal use the <CTRL>-1 character for their
own purposes. Therefore, the <CTRL>-Y character must be used
instead of <CTRL>-1 with Pascal and CP/M to control the printer
interface.
Some of the <CTRL>-1 commands have a fixed format, such as
<CTRL>-1 W, which sets double width printing. Other commands
control variable features of the printer, for example, the width of the
left and right-hand margins. The variables you include in these
commands are shown as a small letter
n
or
m
in the descriptions in this
manual. An example of this kind of command is <CTRL>-1 nR, which
sets the right-hand margin. The letter n does not mean that you type a
letter n: instead, you should substitute for
n
the number that you wish
to use. In this case, to set the right-hand margin to 75 characters, use
the command:
<CTRL>-1 75R
You would enter this command with the following series of keys:
<CTRL>-1
i:::::r:=i
[:I=:J
I
R -]
Here, the letter
n
has been replaced by 75.
