Preparing to Setup NEC Storage NS420 via the network
To setup NEC Storage NS420, prepare the following information to be assigned to
embedded LAN port of NEC Storage NS420.
Computer name
IP address and mask value
Finding Your New NEC Storage NS420
Once the Configuration Utility finds all of the NEC Storage NS420 units on your
network, it will display computer Name, IP Address and Workgroup.
Modifying Default Network Settings
If a DHCP server is running in your network, launch the NEC Storage NS420
configuration screens by double-clicking on the default name of your newly installed
NEC Storage NS420.
If NEC Storage NS420 is attached to a network without a DHCP server, your NS420
will be displayed with an IP Address in the 169.254.xxx.xxx range. You must now
assign a unique "Static IP Address" to your unit.
See your network administrator for an available IP address before proceeding.
To set an IP address, highlight the default name of your NEC Storage NS420 with a
single mouse click and then select the Change Settings button.
Delete the default IP Address and enter your unique address, subnet mask, and
gateway (if applicable).
Should you wish to change the default computer name, please do so now with any
combination of alphanumeric characters (without spaces).
Next, click Apply to make the changes permanent. Your NEC Storage NS420 will now
automatically reboot.
After your NEC Storage NS420 has rebooted, your new settings should appear. If not,
go back to the top of this page, and begin again.
Now, double click on the NEC Storage NS420 in the Configuration Utility window to
launch the configuration screens on your newly enabled NEC Storage NS420.
