Re-installing Windows 2000 on your NEC Storage NS420
HOW TO RUN THE RECOVERY CD:
Place the CD in the CD drive and boot the NAS server.
RECOVERY CD STEPS:
The NS420 Recovery CD is fully automated.
The floppy can contain a configuration file (SYSPREP.INF) file generated with the "NEC Storage NS Series /
Configuration utility" present in the \UTIL directory of this CD.

Step 1:
- Erase the first partition entry (Windows Partition). Only the 1st partition entry is deleted (Windows
partition) the other partitions won't be erased (Data partition(s)).
- Create a Primary partition of 8 Giga bytes on the first hard drive.
- Restart the machine.

Step 2:
- Format the first partition (C:) 8Gb.
- Extract Windows 2000 files and NAS Software from CD for NEC Storage NS420.
- Check CRC.
- Eject CDROM
- Start the Windows 2000 installation process
The Windows installation will take less than 1 hour.
The installation process will be finished when the machine will produce a long sound.
If one of the operations is interrupted, the Recovery CD process will restart at the first step
