Installing a Disk Array Controller Board
See "PCI Board" for the installation of a disk array controller.
IMPORTANT:
A riser card is designed for installing only low-profile PCI boards or
full-height PCI boards. Before installing a PCI board, make sure of
the card specification.
The PCI bus slot search order at start of the server is defined as
follows:
– Low-profile riser card, and then the full-height riser card
– Ascending order of the slot numbers
Thus, the system searches for the slot numbers in the following
order:
1C → 2C → 3C → 1B → 2B → 3B
A SCSI controller (including a disk array controller) with the
system disk connected must be searched for before any other SCSI
controllers. Determine the slot in which the SCSI controller is first
searched for. The system is unable to start if the SCSI controller
search order is wrong.
If a disk array controller is installed on both the low-profile riser
card and the full-height riser card, the system is unable to start
through a disk that is connected to the disk array controller installed
on the full-height riser card.
When connecting a disk array controller, start the BIOS SETUP
utility, select [Boot] → [Hard Disk Drives], and set the 8th priority
or earlier for the controller. If the 9th priority or later is set, the
system is unable to start the disk array controller configuration
menu.
Disk Expansion Unit (DEU) in a Disk Array Configuration
A disk expansion unit is an exclusive device that can add up to 14 hard disk drives to your
server. (The number of hard disk drives depends on the DEU model.) The server containing a
disk array controller board can connect to one or two DEUs. For details on the number of
