DEVICE INSTALLATION OR REMOVAL PROCEDURE
Install or remove a component from the server using the following procedure.
Hard Disk Drive
The server has seven device bay slots in the disk bay of the front of the server to install hard
disks with the SCA2 interface (Ultra 320 SCSI.) Up to six hard disk drives can be installed in
the standard configuration.
All seven slots may contain a hard disk approximately 25.4 mm (1 inch) high. The SCSI IDs of
ID0 through ID5 are always assigned to hard disks as shown below.
SCSI ID0
SCSI ID1
SCSI ID2
*The figure shows the SCSI IDs when the flex bay contains a hard disk drive instead of the floppy disk or CD-ROM
drive.
A dummy tray is installed in the hard disk drive bays except the one with SCSI ID0 defined.
The purpose of a dummy tray is to increase the cooling effect in the server. Always install a
dummy tray in slots not containing a hard disk drive.
