Replace the battery as follows.
Note:
boards and other components; place them on an antistatic
surface. Wear an antistatic wrist strap attached to chassis
ground.
1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions listed at the beginning of this
chapter.
2. Power off the system. Ensure the power cords are unplugged from the AC
wall outlet.
3. Remove the rear access cover and system board access cover following
procedures previously described in this chapter.
4. Remove the memory board following procedures previously described in
this chapter.
5. Remove the processor board air baffle following procedures previously
described in this chapter.
6. Remove the processor board following procedures previously described in
this chapter. The battery is located on the bottom left side of the system
board behind a clear plastic sheet that covers the bottom half of the system
board.
7. Lift the clear plastic sheet covering the bottom half of the system board to
gain access to the battery.
8. If the battery has a protective plastic cover, remove the cover by lifting it
away from the battery. Use your fingernail or a small pointed tool
(Figure 4-17, A) to gently push up the bottom edge of the battery
(Figure 4-17, B).
9. Remove the battery from its socket (Figure 4-17, C).
10. Position the new battery over the battery socket with the plus (+) sign on the
battery facing up.
11. Carefully insert the top of the battery into its socket and gently push until it
is firmly seated in the socket.
12. Reinstall the processor board, processor air baffle, memory board, and
access covers following procedures described earlier in this chapter.
13. Plug in the power cords and power up the system.
14. Run BIOS Setup to restore any missing configuration settings.
