Removing a 5 1/4-Inch Device

Remove a 5 1/4-inch device as follows (see Figure 4-37).
1. Perform steps 1 through 4 of the previous subsection Installing a 5 1/4-Inch
Device.
2. Disconnect the power cable (B) and data cable (A) from the device that you
are removing.
3. Remove the device from the media bay by releasing the two tabs on each
side of the device and carefully pull the device completely out of the bay.

4. Place the device on an antistatic surface.
5. Remove the device side rails from each side of the 5 1/4-inch device and
save for reinstallation later (see Figure 4-35).
6. Place the drive in an antistatic wrapper.
7. If installing another device perform steps 6 through 14 of the previous
subsection Installing a 5 1/4-Inch Device, otherwise continue with the next
step.
8. When not installing another device, inset an EMI shield into the bay in
which you removed the device.
9. Install a blank panel over the EMI shield.
10. Perform steps 10 through 14 of the previous subsection Installing a 5 1/4-
Inch Device.
11. Remove the drive serial number from the equipment log.
