5.2 Hoisting and Securing Containers

Prerequisites




Context
Ensure that the crane and steel ropes provide the required bearing capacity.

Container bases have been installed.
Twistlocks in container bases are in correct positions.
The doors of containers to be hoisted are closed.
If containers will be used outdoors, never hoist containers in bad weather.

Precautions
Ensure that the crane and steel ropes provide the required bearing
capacity.
Ensure that the ropes are securely connected.
Do not allow any unauthorized people to enter the hazardous areas
and never stand under the crane arm during hoisting.
Ensure that the crane is properly located and avoid long-distance
hoisting.
Keep the container stable and horizontal during hoisting, and ensure
that the diagonal gradient of the container is within 5 degrees.
Lift and land a container slowly to prevent shock to equipment
inside it.
Remove the ropes after ensuring that the container is placed evenly
on the four bases.
