Write and know-how protection

SINAMICS S120 converters provide you not only with "write protection" but also "know-how
protection".
The know-how protection function is used generally to protect intellectual property. Machine
manufacturers use know-how protection to protect their products from unauthorized use,
changes or duplication.
Malfunctions of the machine as a result of incorrect or changed parameter settings
As a result of incorrect or changed parameter settings, machines can malfunction, which in
turn can lead to injuries or death.
• Protect the parameter settings from unauthorized access.
• Control possible malfunctions through use of suitable measures (e.g. EMERGENCY STOP

Write and know-how protection for SINAMICS Integrated

You can use the write and know-how protection to protect parameter settings of the drive
against unintended or unauthorized changes.
Write protection
Write protection prevents unauthorized or inadvertent changes to the drive settings.
Know-how protection
A machine manufacturer can use know-how protection to protect its confidential
configuration and parameter assignment know-how from being read, changed or copied by
unauthorized persons.
Note that the know-how protection does not act on all parameters and that the execution of
some functions is not prevented.
