Updating BMC Firmware
Checklist: Updating BMC Firmware
Verify that both BMC devices are
Verify the BMC firmware version

Update the BMC
To verify that BMC devices are online
1. In ftServer Management Console (ftSMC), expand ftServer (Local), ftServer I/O
Enclosures, and then I/O Enclosure - 10.
2. Click the BMC - 120 node. In the details pane, verify that the value next to State:
State is Duplex. Do not update the firmware if the value is Simplex.
3. Repeat steps
To verify BMC firmware version numbers
1. In ftSMC, expand ftServer (Local), ftServer I/O Enclosures, and then I/O
Enclosure - 10.
2. Click BMC - 120. Examine the value next to the Op State: Reason property.
If the value is Primary, the BMC in I/O enclosure 10 is online and primary. Go to
step 3.
Otherwise, expand I/O Enclosure - 11 and repeat step 2.
3. In the details pane of the primary BMC node, note the value next to FwVersion
and following Runtime. This values indicates the version number of the current
BMC firmware.
4. Compare the version number of the current BMC firmware to the version number
of the file you are upgrading to. Make sure that you are installing a newer version
of the firmware.
Table 6-2
describes the location of the file on the CD and the format of the file name.
