2.9 Precautions for Wiring EN531T

82
The precautions to be observed in installing and wiring the EN531T (10BASE-T) in a
network are presented here. Other general precautions are similar to those for the
EN531 (10BASE2).
Restrictions on transmission lines
• The cable connecting an EN531T module to a hub must not exceed the maximum
length of 100 m.
• Cascade connection of hubs that connect EN531T modules is allowed up to 4 rows
only. Therefore, there must not be 5 or more hubs on a transmission line that connects
two EN531T modules.
• The twisted pair cables to be used may be of the straight type or cross type as follows:
Connecting EN531T module to hub: Straight
Connect EN531T to PC (personal computer) or the like: Cross
Wiring precautions
• The cable connecting an EN531T module to a hub or a personal computer must be in
the same room or in the same cabinet. Do not lead it out of the room or the cabinet. In
cases where cabling outside the room or the cabinet is necessary, use EN531
(10BASE2) modules and trunk cable (5D-2W).
• Check the wiring route and the spaces for the connectors before wiring, and determine
the required cable length. If an extra cable length is expected, examine the proper
way of dealing with it.
• Secure a special cable route, and keep the cables more than 50 cm away from the
power cable and power I/O cables.
• Use cables of category 3 or over. Cables of category 5 are recommended.
• In cabling, be sure to observe the allowable bending radius.

• Keep the connectors covered with a vinyl or thick cloth sheets till cabling begins to
protect them from damage. Also exercise care to free them free of dust and stains.
• After cabling, check that the connectors have been securely inserted and locked.
Support the cables with clamps or other similar means to keep the connectors free of
the cable weight.
