What are the customer benefits?
As of firmware version V3.1, the S7-1500R/H re-
dundant system supports user files.
User files are user-specific files that are stored on
the SIMATIC Memory Card and in the "UserFiles"
directory.
You can write and read user files via the asynchro-
nous "File Handling" instructions (FileReadC, File-
WriteC) or via the Web API of the Web server.
As of firmware version V3.1, the S7-1500R/H re-
dundant system supports the Web API of the Web
server.

support the R/H CPUs can be found in the Web serv-
er Function Manual.
As of firmware version V3.1, the S7-1500R/H re-
dundant system supports data exchange as an OPC
UA server.
An OPC UA server provides information within a
network, e.g. relating to the CPU, the OPC UA server
itself, the data, and the data types. An OPC UA cli-
ent accesses this information.
The "Random" instruction is supported as of FW
version V3.1: You can use this instruction to gener-
ate a 32-bit random number.
The R/H-CPUs support cycle-granular recordings of
up to 64 different tags in a .csv file over a long
period (hours, days, etc.).→ long-term trace.
This function provides you with better diagnostic
capabilities when analyzing the course of signals
over a long period of time.
As of FW version V3.1, the "RH_CTRL" instruction
supports additional functions:
• Switch R/H-CPU to STOP mode and assign the
backup CPU role
• Allow SYNCUP with open PROFINET ring
There is an increasing need to transmit communica-
tion data securely via intranet or public networks.
The support of OPC UA (server functionality) and
Web API of the Web server as of firmware version
V3.1 provides you with the following secure com-
munication options:
• Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTPS)
• Security policies for OPC UA
• In addition to Open User Communication, you
also have the option of transferring data secure-
ly via Secure Open User Communication (TLS).
