Level the column using the adjustable
•
feet and check with a spirit level.
Check selections made in the wizard,
•
particularly for bed height, bed support,
flow rate and Packing Factor.
Check the slurry concentration.
•
Ensure that the correct scale on the
•
column has been used. There is one
scale for stainless steel bed supports
and one for plastic bed supports.
Change to the packing buffer recom-
•
mended in the UNICORN Intelligent
Packing wizard. Repack the column.
Ensure that the correct slurry concen-
•
tration is entered in the Intelligent
Packing wizard and be careful to add
the right volume of slurry.
Check that defaults values were used
•
during Intelligent Packing. Performance
of media available in Intelligent Packing
wizards has been verified by GE in the
range default Packing Factor ±0.02.
Therefore it is known that a small devi-
ation in Packing Factor does not result
in bad performance.
Check that the container with hydraulic
•
liquid is not empty.
Replace scraper sealing if damaged.
•
Check that the pump used for packing
•
delivers the correct volume per time.
Unpack column and perform column
•
leakage test (see Section 6.4 Performing
a column leakage test, on page 143).
