Symptom
Excessive drift
Poor S/N ratio
Poor wavelength
accuracy
Leak error occurs
Cause
The warm-up period is
not sufficient.
Mobile phase is leaking
from a fitting.
An impurity is eluting
from the column.
There is a significant
change in the ambient
temperature. Or low
purity solvent is used.
Flow cell contaminated
Xenon lamp off-position
Error in flow cell
mounting
Flow cell surface
scratched
Water is not injected in
the flow cell.
Bubbles have entered
the flow cell.
Poor adjustment of
xenon lamp position
Error in flow cell
mounting
Monochromator off-
position
Liquid has leaked.
Contaminant has stuck
to the leak sensor.
Judgment/Check
Check each fitting.
Stop feeding liquid
from the pump.
Check solvent.

Remedy
Wait until the instrument
becomes stable (at least
10 minutes).
Retighten the offending
fitting.
Wait until elution is
completed, or replace the
column with a new one.
Control the temperature
variation.
Purify the solvent or
replace it with one of a
higher quality.
Clean the flow cell
(see 4.4).
Adjust lamp position
(5.2.1).
Correctly mount flow cell
(4.4).
Replace flow cell (4.4).
Inject water into the flow
cell.
Remove bubbles (4.4).
Adjust Xe lamp position
properly.
Correctly mount the flow
cell (4.4).
Perform wavelength
accuracy (4.3).
Wipe off the liquid which
has leaked to the drain
receptacle. Also wipe off
the liquid stuck to the leak
sensor (4.2.5).
Wipe off the contaminant
stuck to the leak sensor
(4.2.5).
