Hard Disk Drive

The hard disk drive bay in the front of the Blade Assembly Unit includes 12 slots in which hard disk
drives with Ultra 320 SCSI interface are installed. (Two slots are assigned to each of the CPU
blades.)
Installation or Removal of Hard Disk Drives
See the User's Guide of the Blade Assembly Unit for the installation procedure.
IMPORTANT:
Do not use any hard disks not approved by NEC. If an unapproved
third party's hard disk is installed in the server, both the hard disk
drive and the server itself may be defected.
If hard disk drives of different disk capacities co-exist in the Blade
Assembly Unit, the unit can operate normally. To use a RAID drive
based on the onboard disk array controller (HostRAID), use hard
disk drives of the same type number.
A dummy tray is inserted into each empty slot in the hard disk drive
bay. The dummy tray is required to increase the cooling effect
within the Blade Assembly Unit. If a hard disk drive is not installed
on a slot, insert a dummy tray into the slot.
The hard disk drive slot used by each CPU blade is defined
previously. See Chapter 3 to confirm the installation slot for each
CPU blade.
The removal procedure is the reverse of the installation procedure.
