3-2 Setting Up Your Server

SETUP FLOW

Follow the flowchart below to set up the server.
Selecting a site
Select a suitable site for the server. Assemble the 19-inch rack assembly.
Unpacking the system
Unpack the server and accessories from the shipping carton box.
Installing the Blade Assembly Unit
Install the Blade Assembly Unit into the rack assembly.
Installing the CPU blade
Install the CPU blade into the Blade Assembly Unit.
Installing the hard disk drive
Install the hard disk drive into the Blade Assembly Unit.
Making connections
Connect peripheral devices to the server.
Turning on the server
Power on the server to start software setups. Setups depend on the optional internal devices
installed and on the peripheral devices connected.
Configuring the RAID drive
If you use the hard disk drives as a RAID drive, run the SCSI BIOS utility to configure the
RAID drive.
Installing the operating system
Install an operating system to the server. See Chapter 5.
Installing the utilities
Install the utilities in the provided NEC EXPRESSBUILDER CD-ROM. See Chapter 6.
Making backup copies of system information
After all the system setup procedures are completed, make backup copies of system
information.
System information is required for recovering the server from the trouble or after replacing
the system board.
