Licensing

The number of licenses depends on the number of DCPs that are present in the system:

Generating the required licenses

You will need the serial number of the SIMATIC memory card in order to generate a license. Give
your local Siemens representative the 10-digit code beginning with "SMC_", which can be found
on the front of the card.
You will then receive a license certificate with the license key.

The license is linked to the memory card. This has the advantage that the memory card can
easily and quickly be plugged into a PLC with the same design in the event of failure of a
control unit. It is not necessary to obtain a new license.
Note
License required
A license is an essential requirement for operating an energy storage system with a SIMOCRANE
ESSM Step 7 library. The SIMOCRANE ESSM Step 7 library cannot be used without a license. No
trial license functionality is available.
