5. Splined washer
6. Countershaft third gear

9. Countershaft fifth gear
the smallest diameter and fifth gear has the largest.
On the countershaft, fifth gear has the smallest di-
ameter and first gear has the largest.
Mainshaft Disassembly
Refer to Figure 17.
1. Clean the assembled shaft in solvent. Dry all
components with compressed air or let the assembly
sit on rags to drip dry.
2. Remove the snap ring and washer from the
mainshaft.

12. Splined washer
13. Snap ring
14. Mainshaft second-third
combination gear
15. Mainshaft fifth gear
16. Washer
3. Slide fifth gear from the mainshaft, then slide off
the second-third combination gear.
4. Remove the snap ring and the washer.
5. Remove fourth gear from the mainshaft.
6. Inspect the mainshaft (Figure 18) and gears as
described in this chapter.
Mainshaft Assembly
Before installing any component, coat
all surfaces with molybdenum disul
fide oil.
