1. Remove the meter assembly as described in this
chapter.
2. Check the voltage in the illumination light cir-
cuit as follows:
a. Set a voltmeter to the 20 DC volt range.
b. Connect the voltmeter positive test lead to the
blue terminal (C, Figure 66) in the harness
side of the meter connector; connect the volt-
meter negative test lead to the black terminal
(B).
c. Turn the main switch on.
d. If the voltmeter does not read battery voltage,
the wiring between the main switch and the
meter connector is faulty. Make the necessary
repairs.
TAILLIGHT/BRAKE LIGHT

Taillight/Brake Light Replacement

1. Remove the screws (A, Figure 70) and pull the
taillight lens (B) from the taillight assembly.
2. Turn the bulb (A, Figure 71) counterclockwise
and remove it.
3. Push the new bulb into the socket and turn it
clockwise to lock it in position.
4. Make sure the gasket (B, Figure 71) is in place
and reinstall the lens.

Removal/Installation
Refer to Figure 72 and Figure 73.
1. Remove the taillight lens (B, Figure 70) and
gasket (B, Figure 71).
2A. On XVS1100 models, remove the taillight
housing as follows:
a. Remove the nut and washer from each hous-
ing bolt.
b. Pull the housing from the taillight bracket.
c. Disconnect the taillight harness connector
and remove the taillight bracket.
2B. On XVS1100A models, remove the taillight
housing as follows:
a. Remove the license plate from the bracket.
b. Disconnect the black, blue and yellow tail-
light bullet connectors inside the housing on
the license plate bracket (Figure 74).
c. Remove the lens (B, Figure 70) and gasket
(B, Figure 71) from the taillight housing.
