lay; connect the negative test lead to the re-
lay's blue/yellow terminal (B). The diode
should have continuity.
b. Reverse the connectors and check the conti-
nuity. The diode should have no continuity
when the positive test lead is connected to the
blue/yellow terminal in the relay unit (B, Fig-
ure 50) and the negative test lead is con-
nected to the sky blue terminal (A).
4. Replace the starting circuit cutoff relay if the ig-
nition system diode fails either portion the test.
STARTER RELAY
Removal/Installation
1. Securely support the motorcycle on a level sur-
face.
2. Make sure the main switch is turned off. Discon-
nect the negative terminal from the battery.
3. Remove the seats and ignitor panel as described
in Chapter Fourteen.
4. Press the release tab on the four-pin connector
(A, Figure 51) and disconnect the connector from
the starter relay.
5. Pull back the boot on each starter relay cable
connector and remove the terminal nuts.
6. Disconnect the red battery lead (B, Figure 51)
from the relay's positive terminal and disconnect
the black starter lead (C) from the relay's negative
terminal.
7. Remove the relay from the rubber mount.
8. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the
following:
a. Install the relay in the rubber mount.
b. Make sure all connections are free of corro-
sion and are tight.
c. Torque the relay terminal nuts to 7 N•m (62
in.-lb.).
Continuity Test
1. Securely support the motorcycle on a level sur-
face.
2. Turn the main switch off. Disconnect the nega-
tive terminal from the battery.
3. Remove the seats and ignitor panel as described
in Chapter Fourteen.
4. Press the release tab on the four-pin connector
(A, Figure 51) and disconnect the connector from
the starter relay.
5. Use jumper wires to connect the positive battery
terminal to the red/white terminal (A, Figure 52) in
